'Toy bank gifts have made my family's Christmas'
BBCA mother of four said she was "overwhelmed with joy" after receiving free gifts from a Christmas toy bank.
Ayesha was one of more than 60 parents who chose donated toys at a one-off event in Bracknell, Berkshire, on Saturday.
She said the presents, including three bags of toys and two large stuffed animals, had "made Christmas for me and my family".
The toy bank was started by four local mothers in 2023 to ease festive season financial pressures for families.
Ayesha said: "I'm overwhelmed with joy...
"Christmas is so expensive we usually can't participate.
"We're lucky if we get one gift in the morning.
"We only have a Christmas meal because of our extended family."
Another parent, Guj, said he was amazed by how many of the presents were new and unopened.
He said: "Our son loves cars but if he gets bored of them we can bring them back next year for another child."
Bracknell Chrismas Toy Bank was set up by local mothers Cat Bodin, Ashley Pinto, Hannah Beech and Kate Jordan, after a conversation about clearing out old toys.
Ms Bodin said: "Most of us give things away to charity shops.
"But we thought it would be a good idea to have them all in one place so parents could come and choose what they want for free."
Ms Pinto added: "Things are expensive and at this time of year it can feel very overwhelming.
"I think if you're prioritising paying your bills and for your food, kids' toys come lower down the list."
The friends, who estimate they have helped 175 children this year, said they hoped to repeat the event in 2025.
