Dundee and Angus College has unveiled plans for a £265m redevelopment - which could include some significant relocations.

The college is exploring moving its Dundee campus to a new facility at the city's Wellgate Shopping Centre and moving its Arbroath campus into the town centre - possibly at the Abbeygate Shopping Centre.

This would involve closing the college's existing Kingsway campus in Dundee and its campus in Arbroath.

The college said its third campus at Gardyne in Dundee would be expanded and developed to include a green skills and innovation hub.

The college said the final funding package was still to be agreed, but it had "begun talks on a range of options."

It said the move would bring education, employability services and support together under one roof for "the first time in Scotland."

Dundee and Angus College principal Simon Hewitt said the plan was "an amazing opportunity to build world-class facilities that are fit for the future."

He said: "If we were to develop a new campus on the site of the Wellgate Shopping Centre it would put the college at the heart of Dundee's regeneration and breathe much-needed new life into the city centre."

The Wellgate Centre said it had been exploring "sustainable repurposing options" for some time, beyond its current retail use.

A spokesperson said: "The prospect of establishing a city centre college campus delivering learning, employment services and support is hugely exciting.

"We continue to work with the council and the college to try to make this vision a reality."
