Scrapyard site sale expected by end of year

Estate agents selling a former Derby scrapyard said a deal for the site was expected "by the end of the year".

After more than a century of trading, Albert Looms in Spondon announced it was closing in May and crushed its final car in July.

Two months later, a listing has appeared on property website Zoopla advertising the sale of the seven-acre site.

Innes England, which is managing the sale, said: "It is difficult to provide an indication of timescale but we would certainly expect a sale to be agreed before the end of the year."

It added despite the site having a long-established use as a recycling centre, it would be suitable for a "variety of industrial or storage uses, subject to planning".

Chris Poulter, Conservative councillor for Spondon, said the former scrapyard was an "important site" inside his constituency.

"There's a long, long history to the site with the business that was there and many people remember going there for parts and tyres," said Mr Poulter.

"It's a vital area for Spondon that could produce a new business with new jobs and facilities for the area.

"It's a very important site and we want to see it put to useful purpose."
