Stars' postcard sale nets £9k for special school

A charity sale featuring postcards created by the likes of Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood has raised more than £9,000 for a school that helps vulnerable children.

Northleigh House School in Hatton, Warwickshire, held the online auction of 90 signed postcards to support its pupils and help finance an expansion to a second site nearby.

Wood's work was sold alongside the likes of artist Sir Grayson Perry and children's book illustrator Korky Paul.

Co-founder Vic Morgan said the school teaches children who have left the mainstream sector through issues including anxiety, bullying and learning difficulties.

Aysha Cook, head of art at the school in Five Ways Road, said it had inquiries from parents every day and there was an increasing waiting list.

She told BBC Radio CWR the school, which was set up in 2012, had had "amazing" support for the auction from artists and other people who donated postcards, with many sharing challenges they and others had faced in school.

The school thanked Ms Cook, who organised the auction, as well as everyone who contributed art or bought postcards for the sale which raised £9,048 in total.

"All of that money will be set aside to help set up our second site, which is an amazing start to our fundraising," it added.
