A stretch of a major road in Lincolnshire is to be rebuilt, with motorists warned to expect night-time closures.

Work is due to begin on the A16 between Boston and Sibsey on 10 March.

Lincolnshire County Council said the closures between the B1184 and Pilleys Lane junctions would happen on weekdays for up to seven weeks.

Richard Davies, the council's executive member for highways, said the project would be a "huge piece of work".

The stretch of road, which is almost three miles, is in urgent need of repair, according to ward councillor Thomas Ashton.

Access will be maintained for residents and overnight closures will be lifted at weekends.

Meanwhile, a bridge on the neighbouring B1183 Boston Road, near Cowbridge, is due to close for maintenance work on 20 March for two weeks, but it will reopen every night to take account of the A16 closures.
