Navy destroys WW2 artillery item found on beach
A suspected wartime artillery item discovered on a Somerset beach has been destroyed in a secure location by the Royal Navy.
HM Coastguard Watchet responded to reports of the item on the shoreline on Monday, before photographs of it were sent to the military's joint bomb disposal centre.
The item, which was categorised as "unknown" and "suspicious", was removed for safe destruction, emergency services said.
Anyone who finds such items on the shoreline should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, HM Coastguard advised.
