A police hunt for an incy-wincy Spider-Man who in turn had helped find a group of missing children has been successful.

Mark, six, from Northampton, sprung into action while wearing his Spider-Man jumper last month.

Northamptonshire Police said he pointed them in the right direction and ran ahead of them to "assist with the job".

Mark has now been thanked with a certificate and a police toy during a school assembly.

Unlike the comic book version of Spider-Man, young fan Mark has been given credit for helping the police

Northamptonshire Police were keen to find the young superhero fan who had come to the rescue when a group of children went missing.

He spoke to officers in Eastfield Park on 22 August and led them to where the youngsters were.

It turned out there was no web of intrigue about his identity and they were able to meet him at his school in Northampton.

PC Polly Scott, from the Northampton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We’re so pleased to have found #SpidermanMark and it was great to be able to formally thank him for his help.

“The Neighbourhood Policing Team know how important it is to forge good links with the community and to get help from such a young boy on that day in August was fantastic and filled us with pride and admiration.

“Thanks to the public as well for their help in finding Mark and I hope he considers a career with the force in the future!”

Perhaps he will end up as a friendly neighbourhood police officer one day, catching thieves just like flies.
