Driver who crashed and assaulted officer is jailed

A man who crashed a vehicle outside a police station and then assaulted an officer has been jailed for 18 months.

Marian Stancu, 32, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following the incident in July in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

Thames Valley Police said officers had requested him to stop after he cut up traffic, but he drove off and crashed into railings.

Stancu, of Micklefield Road in High Wycombe, also pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road [or] public place without third party insurance.

Police said the defendant pulled out in front of roads policing officers on West Wycombe Road in the early hours of Saturday 20 July.

He "continued to drive in a dangerous manner" after being asked to stop, and crashed into rails at the roundabout by Wycombe police station.

Investigating officer PC Richard Lunn said: "It is lucky that Stancu did not crash into a member of the public.

"Stancu made the conscious decision to try and drive away from officers and flee justice, but I am pleased he has now been convicted and jailed."

He was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court.
