New crossings to help city prevent road deaths

New pedestrian crossings will be installed across Sheffield as part of efforts to prevent deaths or injuries on the city's roads.
The plans form part of a raft of measures including improved crossings at other locations, more 20mph zones and upgrades to the city's cycling network.
Locations to benefit from the new crossings include Crookes Valley Road, Handsworth Grange Road and Stainforth Road.
Councillor Ben Miskell said: "We have been very clear that we have an ambition to ensure that nobody is killed or seriously injured on Sheffield's roads as soon as possible."
Sheffield City Council has earmarked more than £3m of funding for the crossings project.
The authority said the locations where work would be focused had the highest number of collision-related deaths or injuries.
Miskell, chair of the council's transport, regeneration and climate policy committee, said: "Sheffield is a fantastic city, it's a changing city with incredible regeneration happening right across it, but in order for the transformation to work and really reach its full potential, we need to improve how people get around.
"This investment forms a crucial part of that process, making it safer, easier and more convenient for people to walk and cycle around."
