Homes approved on former miners' welfare club site

Plans to build homes on the site of a former miners' welfare club and bowling green have been given the go-ahead.

Councillors voted to approve a scheme for 22 houses and flats on the site of the Old Whittington Miners' Welfare Club in Station Lane, Chesterfield, on Monday.

The club closed in 2022, after trading for 88 years, and was later demolished

Chesterfield Borough Council planning committee's decision means Moorbridge Developments' and Nottingham Community Housing can redevelop the site.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said some residents had raised concerns about the prospect of increased traffic and potential parking problems.

However, Derbyshire County Council, the highways authority, concluded there would not be an unacceptable impact on highway safety or a severe impact on congestion.
