Driver arrested after suspected hit and run death
A driver has been arrested after a suspected hit and run on the M1 motorway that forced it to be closed for six hours.
The man's body was found close to the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway between junctions four and five, for Watford and Radlett, on Monday, 4 December, at about 14:30 GMT.
Officers believe the man was struck sometime between 04:30 on Sunday, 3 December and 14:30 on the Monday, when his body was discovered.
A post-mortem examination gave the provisional cause of death as a traumatic head injury.
The driver, 28, from Leicester, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.
He was taken into custody for questioning.
The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, appealed for anyone with information, saw what happened, or has dashcam footage to get in touch.
Police also thanked the public for its patience when the road was closed while investigations were being carried out.
The northbound carriageway was closed from the discovery of the body until about 20:30 that Monday.
