Crews to monitor large waste fire through the night

Firefighters will remain at the scene of a large waste fire in Nottinghamshire overnight.

Crews were called to the waste recycling fire at the Chris Allsop Industrial Park, in Colwick, at about 05:00 BST on Tuesday.

At its height, eight fire engines attended, and officers from the UK Health Security Agency and Environment Agency were involved to monitor any wider risk to the public or wildlife.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said one fire engine at the scene would monitor the stack "to ensure we are able to respond quickly in the event of a flare-up".

The fire service later said there were no health concerns raised and no road closures were required, as the fire was contained to the industrial park.

At about 16:20, the fire service said the blaze was believed to be extinguished.

A spokesperson said: "The industrial fire in Colwick is now thought to be extinguished, and we are reducing to one fire engine on scene overnight.

"We'll keep monitoring the stack to ensure we are able to respond quickly in the event of a flare-up.

"Huge credit to all crews who have worked in the heat to tackle the fire, and to the agencies we have worked with on this."
