A fire in Surrey, which impacted local wildlife, is believed to have been deliberate, the fire service has said.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze in Sheets Heath Common, near Brookwood, on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the service said: "The fire has sadly impacted wildlife, including reptiles in the area.

"One injured snake is now in the hands of a local animal charity in Leatherhead."

The fire service warned that the fire could have spread, endangering lives and more wildlife.

The incident was being treated as a criminal office and has been reported to Surrey Police, the service added.
