Veterans across the South East are set to benefit from a grant which aims to help them develop stronger support networks.

Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) has been awarded £766,000 of funding by the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund's Thrive Together programme.

The charity provides welfare, wellbeing and clinical support to armed forces and their families across the South East.

General Lord David Richards of Herstmonceux, president of VOS, said the organisation was "honoured to have been awarded this additional funding".

"We owe our armed forces a huge amount and our veteran communities deserve access to tailored assistance that best meets their individual needs," he added.

"We will engage with a great number of partners in the statutory, voluntary and commercial sectors to achieve a network that can effectively support veterans, their families and carers, regardless of their location."

Ian Millen, chief executive officer of VOS, said: "If veterans are struggling, it can have an adverse impact on their families and often, they do not know where to turn to for support.

"By working collaboratively with partners, we will build capacity, share expertise and resources to improve and extend integrated care pathways for all veteran communities across the South East region.

"We will turn best practice into common practice."
