Leafield House Nursery on King Lane in Leeds was closed on Monday

A Leeds nursery has been closed by the education watchdog which said children could be "exposed to a risk of harm".

Leafield House Nursery in Moortown, a suburb in the north of the city, had its licence suspended on Monday, Ofsted confirmed, without giving details of the circumstances.

West Yorkshire Police said it was not a police matter, while Leeds City Council said it was "working closely both with Ofsted and the childcare setting to offer appropriate advice".

The nursery declined to comment when approached by the BBC.

According to its website, Leafield House Nursery caters for children from 0-5 years.

The building was the home of relish entrepreneur William Powell Bowman in the 1920s, and was later a maternity and child welfare centre before passing into NHS ownership. It was sold in 2018.
