A fish and chip shop which was badly damaged by a large fire two years ago has been left "heartbroken" after an attempted burglary.

Alongside a picture of the damage, Mrs T's Fish and Chip shop in Southwold, Suffolk, shared a post on social media saying "thankfully" nothing had been taken.

Suffolk Police said it had been called to two break-ins at the town's harbour on the River Blyth and received a report that Mrs T's had also been broken into sometime between Monday and 08:30 BST on Tuesday.

The force said a police investigation into the incidents is under way.

The two earlier reported break-ins happened between 02:00 and 02:30 when cash and goods were stolen from Samantha K's fish shop, and damage was caused to the Harbourmaster's Office.

Despite the incidents, both businesses have continued to operate as usual.

On social media, Mrs T's said: "The damage and disruption are still very real.

"After rebuilding our shop from scratch following the devastating fire, this is yet another blow that hurts deeply.

"We've poured everything into bringing Mrs T's back to life, and to face this now is just incredibly disheartening."

The business caught fire after several gas cylinders exploded in May 2023 and reopened in March.

Also taking to social media, Samantha K's said "a lot of stock" had been taken and advised people to get in touch if any pubs or restaurants were being offered items, such as prawns, crevettes, scallops or smoked salmon.

"We will open as normal because, of course, the show has to go on," the post said.

It said that as a small family business that was "working hard every day", it was disappointed to find this had happened.
