River search under way after person seen in water

Emergency services have been called to the River Severn after reports of somebody in the water.

"Emergency services are currently in the Diglis area of Worcester following a report someone had entered the river," West Mercia Police said.

Part of the riverside footpath in the city centre has been closed with police patrols being drafted into the area.

The air ambulance as well as police, fire and paramedics were sent to Severn Street at about 10:15 GMT. West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to reports of someone in the water near to Diglis House Hotel.

The fire service deployed boat crews and a drone to help with the search

"An increased police presence can be expected this afternoon," police said.

"The footpath along the river is currently closed, as searches continue and to allow emergency services to access the river."

Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said its boat crews had been deployed as well as a drone to help with the search, which was ongoing.
