Man in hospital after serious assault in Peebles

A man has been taken to hospital after a serious assault in the Borders.

The attack happened on the High Street in Peebles - near to its junction with St Michaels Wynd - between 01:30 and 02:00 on Wednesday.

A 29-year-old man was taken to the Borders General Hospital where his condition was described as serious.

Det Con Lucy Inglis said inquiries were at an early stage and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
