Warning over verbal abuse of parkrun volunteers

Volunteer car park marshals have reported being "shouted at and disrespected" by participants of a city parkrun.

Organisers of Gloucester City parkrun said the volunteers have experienced issues for the past two weeks in the car park at Go Outdoors on Barton Street.

There are 70 parking spaces allocated for parkrun participants. When they are full, motorists must park elsewhere.

In a statement, parkrun organisers warned that they will lose the parking arrangement if the problems continue.

Organisers added that parkrun participants are encouraged to arrive early to allow plenty of time for parking at Go Outdoors or other locations.

When the car park is full, on street parking is available at Montpellier or Spa Road, St Michaels Square or Hampden Way.

The parkrun organisers said: "Anyone parking in other areas of the Go Outdoors carpark risks us losing this facility to good.

"If we have further reports of disrespect to our car park marshals, we will be forced to remove the role.

"Then we will lose the arrangement for parking with Go Outdoors, as they are a key part of it.

"Please try to remember they are parkrunners, just like yourself. Arrive early, be kind."
