The report by Public Health Jersey said on average islanders drink 10.8 litres of pure alcohol a year

People in Jersey drink more alcohol per year than those in the UK, according to new figures.

The latest alcohol profile report by Public Health Jersey looks at how much people drink, according to their age, sex and social background.

It showed on average islanders drink 10.8 litres of pure alcohol a year.

It compared with 9.8 litres in the UK and 8.6 litres for the OECD, the club of industrialised nations.

Drink-drive crashes double

The report also found fewer young people on the island were drinking alcohol compared with previous years.

It found the number of road crashes involving drink-driving had also doubled, rising from 20 collisions in 2024 compared with 10 in 2023.

In 190 driving or in charge road offences, alcohol was a factor in 150 of them, it found.
