A hiker has been found dead after going missing in the Lake District.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said they received a call on Thursday morning about a man who was overdue from a walk from Seathwaite to Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain.

The team searched all Thursday but found no signs of the man. More searches on Friday led to the discovery of a body.

The team said its "sincere condolences go to the walker's family and friends".

About 30 volunteers from several groups were involved in the nearly 40-hour long search including Keswick, Langdale Ambleside, and Duddon and Furness mountain rescue teams.

Search dogs, drones and a coastguard helicopter were also involved, a Wasdale team spokesman said.

"Tragically, a find was made", the spokesman said, adding: "Sadly he had not survived."
