The chairman of a charity which supports homeless men raised twice as much money as he set out to when he slept outdoors for a week.

Sanctuary Trust chair Tim Ringsdore slept outside in St Aubin between10 and 16 March and raised more than £4,100.

He said the week had been "very tough" as it had been "bitterly cold" but he was pleased people in Jersey were "so caring and giving".

"When the community gets together we can achieve great things," he added.

During the week, Mr Ringsdore continued his daily routine, including going to work, and shared meals with Sanctuary Trust residents - which he said helped him better understand the challenges they faced.

He said: "This uncomfortable challenge was set by our residents and is about shining a light on the many diverse circumstances that can lead to homelessness.

"Whether due to job loss, family breakdown or bereavement, homelessness can happen to anyone."

During the week, Mr Ringsdore was joined for a night each by housing minister deputy Sam Mézec, chief police officer Robin Smith, and colleagues from the charity.
