Detectives investigating the death of a teenager after a hit-and-run crash are trying to track down a suspect who has gone on the run.

Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi, 16, died in hospital after he was hit by an Audi on Staniforth Road, Darnall, in Sheffield, on 4 June.

South Yorkshire Police said they wanted to trace Zain Ahmed in connection with his death. Officers believe the 22-year-old, who has links to Sheffield, Worksop and Birmingham, "knows he is wanted and is actively evading our officers".

Adam Mohammed, 29, of Acres Hill Road, Sheffield, Zulkernain Ahmed, 20, and Amaan Ahmed, 26, both of Locke Drive, Sheffield, have been charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Police said a grey Audi car was driven towards three electric bikes, hitting one rider and later hitting Abdullah, who died a short time later in hospital.

The driver of the Audi failed to stop at the scene, the force added.

On Tuesday, two men aged 30 and 40 were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and released on police bail.

Two others remain on bail on suspicion of the same offence.

Police added on Friday that "extensive work" had been carried out to locate Mr Ahmed, including inquiries with his relatives and friends and visits to more than a dozen addresses.

"We are now wanting to hear from one anyone who has seen or spoken to him recently, or knows where may be staying," they added.

Det Ch Insp Benjamin Wood previously thanked the local community for "their support with our investigation into this heartbreaking incident".

"Abdullah was an entirely innocent bystander who has sadly lost his life," he said.

"Our thoughts remain with his loved ones who have lost a beloved family member and friend in the most tragic of circumstances."
