Men due to stand trial after metal nut damage

Two men are set to stand trial in two years' time after people were hurt and vehicles were damaged when they were hit by metal nuts.

Various charges were brought in connection with damage in Crockhamwell Road, Woodlands Avenue, Beechwood Avenue and Wokingham Road in Reading in June 2024.

Robert Boyd, 19, of Shire Court, Epsom, Surrey, and Matthew Ward, 25, of Doggetts Close, Edenbridge, Kent, are due to stand trial from 14 April 2027 at Reading Crown Court.

Reading Buses previously said one of its vehicles had a window broken when a nut was fired at it.

Mr Boyd was charged with two counts of intentionally encouraging the commission of a summary offence and three counts of intentionally encouraging or assisting with the commission of an either way offence.

He was also charged with one count each of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

Mr Ward was charged with two counts of criminal damage to a property valued under £5,000 and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was also charged with two counts of assault by beating and one count of assault of a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.
