Two drivers seriously hurt in crash

Two people have been seriously hurt in a road crash.

The collision, between a Seat Ibiza and a Mercedes, happened on the A590 at Newby Bridge in south Cumbria just before 18:00 BST.

The drivers of both vehicles suffered serious injuries. Cumbria Police said the driver of the Seat, who was airlifted to hospital, was in a critical but stable condition.

Officers closed the road for more than six hours following the crash.
