Six new 20mph zones approved by city council
New 20mph speed limits are set to be introduced in six parts of Leicester.
Leicester City Council has approved plans to place the reduced limit on dozens of roads, including those around Wyvern Primary School and those in the Saltersford Road, Brinsmead Road, Glengarry Way, Rowlatts Hill and Stoneygate Road areas.
The total estimated cost of introducing the zones - part of a wider strategy to "reduce accidents and encourage cycling and walking" - is £113,000.
Council officers say "any positive effects from the 20mph schemes to address congestion will result in lower emissions and improved air quality".
The introduction of the zones follows consultations with ward councillors, emergency services and residents.
The majority of responses were in favour of the proposed scheme, according to council documents.
The reduced limit will be introduced on roads in the Brinsmead Road, Glengarry Way, Rowlatts Hill and Stoneygate Road areas from Tuesday.
It will apply to streets around Wyvern Primary School and in the Saltersford Road area from Wednesday.
