Crafts centre among projects sharing almost £2m
A crafts centre is among six projects sharing almost £2m to improve a Cornwall town.
Create CIC's Contemporary Crafts Hub will receive about £1m to upgrade the Donald Thomas Centre, a Grade II* listed building in Camborne.
The new Basset Community Hub has been allocated about £230,000 for a heritage exhibition and Park Gerry will benefit from £250,000 for a multi-use games area.
The funding is part of £28.9m from Cornwall Council and the Town Deal, a government fund to regenerate high streets and boost businesses.
'Positive outcomes'
A further £250,000 will go towards replacing the toilet facilities at Camborne Rugby Club.
Projects Lifecycle and Renew have been allocated £80,000 and £150,000 respectively to replace a section of deteriorated boardwalk on the Red River trail and to fund traffic monitoring solutions in Camborne town centre.
Val Dalley, chair of the Camborne Town Deal board, said the money would "add enormous benefit to our communities and people of all ages and interests".
Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for economy, said it was "good to see positive outcomes" and he was looking forward to following the projects' progress.
