Gender pay gap statistics published for workers

New figures show men still consistently earn more than women in Jersey, although the gender pay gap is narrowing.
According to a government report, women earn on average 6.3% less than men.
The gap is widest in the finance and information sectors where men get paid more than 20% extra.
The gap also tends to widen as workers get older, peaking in people's 50s, according to the report.
Statistics Jersey has published the gender pay report.
The report for June 2024 marks the introduction of a new regular publication, scheduled for release annually each March.
The median hourly rate for males was £22.27 whilst for females it was £20.95, producing an overall gender pay gap of 6.3%, the report said.
The largest pay gap of any sector was in the information and communication sector, at 28.2%.
The smallest gap of any sector was in the private education, health and other services sector, at 0.1%.
Men consistently earn more than women in the financial and legal activities sector but the pay gap has shown signs of narrowing since January 2022, the report found.
Non-finance private sectors have seen relatively little change in the gender pay gap over the same period.
