Free activities for children over Christmas

Free activities are being offered for children and young people in Hull over the Christmas period.

The Healthy Holidays sessions are available for ages five to 16 and have been set up by Hull City Council (HCC) to help families struggling with the cost of living.

Activities include swimming, cooking sessions, family-fun sessions and warm zones for families with a hot meal and games.

Councillor Linda Tock, portfolio holder for children's services at HCC, said the programme was developed to "ensure children and young people do not go hungry when schools are closed".

Tock said: "While we are very happy to offer Healthy Holidays, and it provides a huge amount of fun, it is vital to recognise that it exists to address serious structural problems which can only be solved at a national level.

"More recently, the addition of warm zones is a response to the continued cost of living crisis, which means many families are struggling to afford the essentials of food and heat.

"This is an unacceptable situation for people to find themselves in."

Activities can be booked through the Healthy Holidays website.
