An explosion at a block of flats, in which a man suffered serious burns, was caused accidentally, according to fire investigators.

The man in his 20s was taken to hospital in a critical condition on Monday evening after the incident on Chase Road in Burntwood, Staffordshire.

A two-storey flat was damaged in the blast, prompting an investigation. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has not shared details as to what led to the explosion.

Five other flats were evacuated after the incident but no-one else was injured.

The burnt out flat sits above shops with police tape at ground level and two men in protective suits behind the tape.
