People stopped without lights could face a £65 fine

Cyclists riding at night without lights have been warned they could face significant fines.

Guernsey Police said anyone caught riding a bike or e-bike without working lights could face a £65 fine.

The force said while evenings were getting "slightly lighter" people were significantly more likely to have an accident in the dark without lights.

Police said buying lights was "much cheaper" than the fine, adding: "Be safe, be seen".

"Make sure you check before setting off cycling in the dark," the force added.

Officers said anyone caught for riding without lights had the option to have the fine cancelled if they bought new lights and showed the receipt at the police station in St Peter Port within seven days.
