Man rescued from fire on 10th floor
A man was rescued from a fire on the 10th floor of a block of flats in Sydenham on Tuesday afternoon.
The London Fire Brigade attended at about 15:40 BST after receiving more than 20 reports that a flat and part of the roof of a building were alight on Dacres Road.
Firefighters fitted the man with a fire escape hood, which gives up to 15 minutes of protection from dangerous gases like carbon monoxide, before helping him escape down a staircase.
Roads nearby remain closed and people are being asked to avoid the area.
Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters brought the fire under control by about 17:16 BST, said the LFB.
However, crews will remain at the scene “extinguishing hotspots”.
Residents nearby have been advised to keep windows and doors closed because of the "significant" amount of smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
