James Bond's Aston Martin set to drive another day
A sports car used to promote a James Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry has fetched £46,000 at auction.
The 2001 Aston Martin Vanquish, used to promote Die Another Day in 2002, sold at an H&H Classics auction in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on Wednesday.
Auctioneers had expected it to fetch between £50,000 to £70,000.
The V12-powered car was bought by a bidder in Switzerland who was not named at the auction.
Die Another Die starred Pierce Brosnan, as Bond and Halle Berry as Jinx Johnson.
Madonna sang the the film's theme song, Die Another Day.
Brosnan was photographed leaning on the car during promotion for the film.
A spokesman for the auctioneers said the car was one of seven Vanquish cars retained by Aston Martin for "press duties".
He said the car had "sported" the number plate M16 SPY at one stage and indicated that it had a top speed of nearly 200mph.
James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, said the car was a "slice of movie and motoring history".
Bidders were told in the auction blub that the Vanquish was also notable as the last Aston Martin to be handbuilt at Aston Martin's works in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire.
