The roof of Adelaide Lodge, in Holt Fleet Road, requires 'urgent attention'

Permission has been granted for specialist conservation work to take place to the roof of a historic building in Worcestershire.

The roof of Adelaide Lodge in Ombersley requires urgent attention according to the Ombersley Conservation Trust.

The Grade II listed building on Holt Fleet Road dates back to 1840 and is one of the several farmhouses built by the Ombersley Estate, said planning officers.

Wychavon District Council has agreed for the replacement of the roof felt, lead flashings and slate tales after the trust deemed them "no longer fit for purpose."

The trust, which owns the building, said: “The proposed works aim to both preserve and enhance the historic nature of Adelaide Lodge.

“The existing roof slates on the house are now no longer fit for purpose, there is no underlay to the finish and the roofing battens are so slender that accessing the roof has become a health and safety issue.

“The polycarbonate infill roof is of poor quality and inappropriate for a grade II listed building and hampers access to the house roof above for maintenance.

“The rooflight is a poor quality 1970s rooflight which is past its lifespan and needs replacing with a more appropriate ‘conservation’ type equivalent.”
