A 12-year-old girl has been arrested at a school after a member of staff was assaulted, police have said.

Surrey Police was called to Oakwood School in Horley on Wednesday and said a girl was detained and arrested on suspicion of common assault.

Oakwood School said "robust safeguarding procedures were followed diligently" as the site was put into lockdown.

The girl was subsequently taken into custody, police added.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Cdr Insp Jon Vale says the force will continue to work with the school while enquiries continue.
