Scaffolding installed around airport control tower
Scaffolding has been installed around the control tower at Alderney Airport to support the structure and enable further engineering works to be carried out, Guernsey Ports has said.
Since a report about debris falling from the tower last week, arrival passengers have been diverted through the Covid Arrivals area as a safety precaution.
An initial inspection was carried out on Friday and confirmed corrosion in the support metal beams along the base of the control room cabin.
A full structural survey is now planned for next month, which Guernsey Ports hopes will identify the full extent of the corrosion.
All flights will continue to operate as normal and the current temporary arrangements for arrival passengers at the airport will be reviewed by Guernsey Ports.
