Roadworks at Devil's Bend to end within weeks

Repairs to a collapsed wall at a stretch of Nottinghamshire road known as Devil's Bend are set to be completed by mid-February.

A section of the wall alongside Chilwell Lane in Bramcote collapsed and dropped stonework into the road, which forced a full closure on 8 January.

The road reopened two days later with temporary traffic signals in place.

These will now remain in place until mid-February, Nottinghamshire County Council has confirmed.

Long-term erosion coupled with adverse weather this month caused the collapse, said the council.

Repairs to the retaining wall and herringbone-patterned stonework will begin on 3 February and are expected to take a fortnight to complete.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The wall has partially collapsed and the repairs are expected to last for two weeks. Work will take place during weekdays from 07:00 to 16:30 GMT.

"To ensure the works are conducted safely, the existing wall will be fully supported while the stonework is replaced with matching stone by a specialist contractor."

The incident is not the first to affect drivers using the road in recent years.

A collapse at a section of road in April 2024 led to a full closure, which lasted for about three months.
