By-election to be held after councillor resigns

A by-election will be held in west Devon after the resignation of an independent councillor.
West Devon Borough Council said it would be held in its Tavistock North ward on 1 May, the same time as the Devon County Council elections.
The by-election was called following the resignation of Ursula Mann, who was elected in 2023 when lots were drawn as two candidates received the same number of votes.
Mann served as the lead hub member for climate and biodiversity and also sat on two committees.
Council leader Many Ewings said: "Ursula has been a fantastic councillor for west Devon, bringing her unique perspective to issues that we have faced, including her inspirational enthusiasm towards environmental issues.
"It's a great shame to see her step down from the role, but we look forward to welcoming a new member to the council in May."
