New homes design revealed for rural village

Details have been published of a housing development to be built in a rural village.

Permission has already been granted for 134 homes on the site in South Marston, Wiltshire,

Consent is now being sought by the developer for the specific design and layout of the plot opposite Magdalene Close.

A further 137 new homes are also planned further south as part of a wider expansion of the village.

Drawings submitted by Taylor Wimpey for the L-shaped plot south of Magdalene Close and straddling Old Vicarage Lane, show brick-built two-storey houses, some with timber cladding and featuring high "chalet-type" gable roofs.

The company said: "Homes are to be integrated to ensure the development has a distinctive sense of place that will respond to the landscape and edge of village setting.”

Vistry Homes, which was building the estate further south towards the railway line, said: "The layout has been designed to create a high-quality and attractive residential environment and sensitive townscape.

Both developments would be accessed using the new Hammerman Way road being built off Old Vicarage Lane, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

A public consultation event has been planned towards the end of the year to allow residents to comment on the proposals.
