Rugby player pleads guilty to sexual assault
A rugby league player who pleaded guilty to sexual assault has been sacked by his club.
Dion Aiye, 37, admitted the charge at Workington Magistrates' Court in Cumbria on Monday.
He has been released on conditional bail and will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on 16 December.
Whitehaven RLFC said it had formally dismissed Aiye from the club and that it wanted to acknowledge the fans' patience "during this period of uncertainty".
It said it had not commented earlier as Aiye had indicated he would plead not guilty, so the club did not want to "prejudice the case".
Aiye was previously suspended for eight matches earlier this year after he was convicted of assaulting his ex-partner.
He admitted assault by beating and harassment and was given an 18-month community order.
