More than 8,000 people have joined this year's city Santa Dash, where rugby star Kevin Sinfield also kicked off his latest epic fundraiser.

The sun shone on entrants, who were decked out in red and blue Santa suits, as they ran along Liverpool's waterfront in the annual 5k event.

Funds were raised for local medical services, including Alder Hey Hospital, Claire House and North West Air Ambulance.

Liverpool and Everton football stars joined Sinfield at the event, where he started his fifth annual fundraiser - a 230-mile nationwide run across seven days - to tackle the impact of motor neurone disease (MND).
