Man celebrates 50th birthday with 50 half marathons
A man from Kent is celebrating his 50th birthday by running 50 half marathons in 50 days.
Due to complete his 50th half marathon on Saturday, Steve Wolfe, from Newington has been running 13.1 miles (21.08 kilometres) daily in aid of Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance (KSS).
Mr Wolfe said the challenge had "been a real struggle at times" but added that it was "incredible what the human body can do if you put your mind to it".
This challenge is part of Mr Wolfe's bigger goal to run 24,901 miles (40,075km), within ten years, a challenge he's calling Run the World.
To complete his final half marathon, Mr Wolfe will run 6.3 miles (10.2km) from his house, 3.7 miles (6km) to Milton Creek Country Park and then complete the final 3.1 miles (5k) at the Sittingbourne Parkrun.
"Ultimately it's only ever putting one foot in front of the other", Mr Wolfe said.
The runner said he wanted to raise money for KSS because he had "seen first-hand the excellent work the air ambulance do for our community".
Mr Wolfe was supported by KSS when he performed CPR on a fellow parkrun participant who had suffered from a cardiac arrest.
In 2020 Mr Wolfe was in a road traffic accident and said he "saw that day how the response from the air ambulance gave that person a chance of life".
Lola Inge, running and challenge manager at KKS said: "We are so grateful to Steve for the funds he has raised and what he has done to increase awareness of our lifesaving service."
