Motorway drivers have been delayed after sheep got loose on the M1 which was already closed further up because of a vehicle fire.

At about 11:00 GMT, two lanes were shut heading northbound between junction 14 for Milton Keynes and junction 15 for Northampton.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue sent three crews to deal with the incident and one lane reopened at about 12:00 GMT.

National Highways added that traffic was also held in both directions between junction 10 for Luton and 11 for Dunstable after sheep were loose on the carriageway.

At about 11:55 GMT, the sheep were herded to "a place of safety" according to an X post by National Highways.
