A major A-road will be closed most nights for the next month to allow road markings to be renewed.

Work on the A11 near Thetford, Norfolk, is expected to take place in phases, starting at 20:00 BST on Monday and finishing at 06:00 on 8 May.

National Highways said the overnight work, in both directions, was needed to improve safety.

It urged drivers to follow signed diversion routes - including one that was 25 miles (40.2 km) long.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "We are renewing the road markings, studs, and marker posts on both carriageways of the A11 between London Road roundabout and Thetford Road roundabout due to the existing infrastructure becoming worn and ineffective.

"Safety is our top priority and making these markings clearer and more visible means drivers will benefit from a safer road surface."
