Teenager's grave targeted by 'heartless' vandals

The mother of a teenager has said "heartless" vandals who targeted her daughter's grave have added to her distress.

Bethany Fisher was killed in a car crash in Bedlington, Northumberland, on 19 August 2017 after celebrating her 19th birthday.

Her mother Isabel Easson said her child's resting place at Netherton Lane Cemetery was vandalised three days before the seventh anniversary of her death.

Northumbria Police said those responsible for daubing graffiti on the gravestone had carried out an "abhorrent crime".

Ms Easson said: "Whoever is responsible for causing our family such distress at what is always the most difficult time of the year for us, is utterly heartless."

The Northumbria force said it believed the grave was vandalised some time between 23:00 BST on 15 August and 12:00 BST on 16 August.

Miss Fisher was a passenger in a car which collided with a number of parked vehicles.

The driver pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for six years.

Insp Wayne Daniels said: "This act of vandalism at the grave - a place where loved ones come to remember their beloved daughter, sister, and friend - is an abhorrent crime."
