The family of an 85-year-old man who has been missing for exactly a month has issued a "heartfelt plea" for help finding him.

Les Davis was last seen on CCTV leaving his home on Dean Road in Scarborough on the morning of 19 December.

His family thanked people for their support and asked residents to check their video doorbells, CCTV cameras and dashcams for images of Mr Davis, who was described as about 5ft 4ins (1.6m) tall, of small build, with short white/grey hair and who often wears a baseball cap.

A family statement said: "It's been a month since Les was last seen. This has been an extremely difficult time for us and we miss him dearly."

"We're so grateful for the support we've received from the community in Scarborough, and would like to thank everyone who's been involved in the ongoing search. It means so much to us," they added.

"We would just ask that once again, you check your video doorbells, CCTV cameras and dashcams. It's possible you have information on there that could bring us the answers we so desperately need."

North Yorkshire Police said it was believed that Mr Davis did not have a phone with him when he went missing, and he had not accessed his bank account since his disappearance.

Officers were continuing to search for him and had distributed leaflets and posters in key locations, a force spokesperson said.

Police appealed to residents and businesses in Scarborough to check CCTV systems, video doorbells and dashcams - particularly from early in the morning of 19 December.

Insp Craig Regan said any sightings of Mr Davis could provide crucial information in the search for him.

"Were you out early in the morning on 19 December? Particularly if you were in the area around the William Street Coach Park, or along Marine Drive and Royal Albert Drive, you may have important information that could help," he said.

"Our inquiries will continue for as long as it takes. We've had a positive response to our appeals for information about Les, and continue to urge people to get in touch with information."
