A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after an alleged assault involving a hammer at a school.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called to Redhill Academy, in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, after reports a pupil had been hit with a hammer at about 09:45 GMT on Monday.

The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries which were not believed to be life-altering, police added.

A 15-year-old was arrested at the scene and also detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, and is being held in custody.

Sgt Richard Craig, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We treat all reports involving weapons and violence with the utmost seriousness."
