Taylor Moore admitted intentional strangulation and assault

A teenager who strangled and stabbed his girlfriend has been detained for a year.

Taylor Moore, 19, told police he had "belted" the woman all over and threatened to set a dog on them as they tried to get into his house, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Recorder Ian Mullarkey said the attack "must have been terrifying" for Moore's partner.

Moore, a father of two, admitted intentional strangulation and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Police were called to reports of a "domestic incident" at Moore's home on Dovecrest Court in Wallsend on 2 December, prosecutor Ellen Wright said.

When they arrived, Moore was at an upstairs window and could be heard shouting at someone, while his partner had barricaded herself in a bathroom, the court was told.

He shouted at the officers that they would "need more people" to arrest him and threatened to set a dog loose on them.

Officers entered the house and arrested him, with Moore telling them he had "belted her all over", Mrs Wright said.

His victim was in shock and crying and had obvious fresh injuries, the court heard.

She said she had been punched, kicked and bitten by Moore before he strangled her and stabbed her in the hand and thigh with a knife, the court heard.

As he was being taken to a police station, and after shouting abuse at the officers, Moore asked them to apologise to his victim.

Recorder Mullarkey told Moore: "It must have been terrifying to her, what you did to her.

"Strangling her, attacking her with knives, assaulting her in that way."
