A half marathon is set to take place in a Wiltshire town in 2025, following a six-year break.

It will be the first 13.1-mile race in Swindon since 2019, and will be run by new organisers RunThrough, which hosts races across the UK.

The event is planned for 28 September, with a route that includes local countryside and villages.

Councillor Jim Robbins, leader of Swindon Borough Council, said the "fantastic" event would start and end at Coate Water Country Park.

"No doubt there’ll be strong interest from runners across the region keen to experience this brand new event," he added.

The route takes runners past the villages of Wanborough, Badbury, near to Chiseldon, and along The Ridgeway.

Matt Wood, RunThrough co-founder, called it "a thrilling addition to our event roster”.

“Swindon’s unique blend of city and countryside provides a perfect backdrop for runners of all abilities.

"We’re looking forward to seeing this event become a local favourite and a real standout in the UK’s running calendar," he said.

A half marathon was scheduled to take place in Swindon in 2021 by another organiser, but was cancelled 11 days before the event.

RunThrough has already opened registration.
