Wolves charity to offer sports coaching degree

Wolverhampton Wanderers' club charity has teamed up with the city's university to offer a degree in sports coaching.
The Wolves Foundation said the two-year foundation degree will be launched in September, subject to approval. It would mainly be taught at the Molineux stadium and the indoor arena at Aldersley.
The course, run in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, will offer work-based modules and placements across a wide range of the charity's projects, including community and disability sport, said organisers.
The foundation added expressions of interests were now being taken for the course which offers "vital hands-on experience".
'Powerful combination'
The course will also have the option of being extended to a third year to complete a BSc.
Representatives will be at the university's open day on Saturday 5th July for people seeking more information.
Jonny Warburton, the foundation's head of programmes for education, employability and youth engagement, said they were delighted to be linking with the university and offering students "the opportunity to study and gain valuable experience supporting local communities".
"The expertise and experience of university staff in designing and delivering courses of this nature, alongside being able to learn at Molineux and benefit from the placement opportunities we can provide at the foundation, is a powerful combination," he said.
"Being able to offer real-world experience across areas such as community sport, disability sport, health improvement and in schools and youth engagement, is such a substantial benefit to the course, offering students that vital hands-on experience to put what they are learning into immediate practice."
Dr Ally Forbes, sports business management programme leader at the university, added: "Employability modules and placement opportunities will enable students to network with employers and explore a career in coaching and the wider sport and physical activity industry."
